Worship May 3

Apr 26 Worship Service

Apr 19 Worship Service

Our Sunday discussions during the season of Lent will take a progressive (not the politically slanting of that word) look at the last few days of Jesus earthly ministry. Each week will hopefully bring fresh insight to some of the familiar passages during the Passion Week including, the raising of Lazarus, the New Mandate, the prayer in the garden, the arrest and crucifixion and the Resurrection. Hope to see you and bring a friend!

Mar 29 Worship Service

Welcome all to worship service from Pleasant Chapel (actually from Joel’s house to your house). Gather the family as we socially but worshipfully keep our distance. If you have the YouTube App on your television (I said YoutubeTV incorrectly last week), you can find this by searching my name.

Mar 22 Worship Service

Below is a link to this week’s service. It is my hope you and your family will find some time this evening or tomorrow to worship through this. If you have access to YouTube TV, you can search my name there and find the service (on your TV may be a better experience). The service can also be accessed through Facebook.

Mar 15 – Worship Service

Announcements:
* Soup Supper for March 21 is POSTPONED.
* Seniors and anyone with flu-like or cold-like symptoms are encouraged to not attend church services.

Prayer Time
As you take time to worship away from church, consider some things to pray about:
* Take time to marvel at the wonder of God
* Thank him for loving you and seeking you out
* Thank him for your family and friends who surround you
* Thank him for your job, your school, or your current position in life
* Pray for this church
* Pray for protection and a speedy end to the current virus threat
* Pray for our leaders in decision making positions
* Pray for someone in our congregation
* Pray for our youth

Worship through Music
*There is a song that is I can’t listen to enough. It is a song of praise that progresses through worshiping God through his power. The message is that if ” If creation sings Your praises so will I”, ” If it all reveals Your nature so will I “, ” If creation still obeys You so will I “, ” If the wind goes where You send it so will I, If the rocks cry out in silence so will I, If the sum of all our praises still falls shy, Then we’ll sing again a hundred billion times.” The song shifts and talks about the “God of Salvation” The song goes, ” And as You speak A hundred billion failures disappear.” And there it is! That is the message for us. By his word and work our failures disappear. Listen to the song here.

MESSAGE

Mar 1 – Lent as a season of Renewal

Pleasant Chapel 1844-2019

Birthdays provide a time to reflect, review, re-align, or perhaps repurpose. That is true for us as individuals, the country as we celebrate our 243rd birthday and for Pleasant Chapel as we look to celebrate our 175th.

12  Teach us to number our days aright, that we may gain a heart of wisdom. … 17  May the favor of the Lord our God rest upon us; establish the work of our hands for us– yes, establish the work of our hands.
Psalm 90:12-17 (NIV)

Please consider joining us each Sunday as we plan to do just that … to think a bit about the rich heritage of this church and consider how we would wisely allow God to establish our work in order that this church would be most effective for the next 175 years.

Rally Day Oct 13

Stephen tells his tory

Acts 6-7 tells about Stephen a powerful figure in the early church.  He provides one of the longest speeches in the book recalling the history of God’s people.

This provides us an opportunity to survey this great story and help us provide context when we encounter the many stories found in the Bible.

Join us as we review this great story.

2020 Vision

The first few weeks of the new year provides and opportunity to reflect and refocus our lives.  Resolutions are often made with the hopes to make positive changes in our lives.

Church, too, can use this time to re-center and refocus our lives as a body of believers.

Join us as we explore Pleasant Chapel as we begin to enter our 175th year as a church.

Christmas and a Cemetery

It is the Christmas Season.  Join us as we explore again the wonderfully rich story of God becoming a child for you and me.  This year we bring the perspective of the cross and a tomb and what that means as we look at the manger scene.  The popular Christmas song poses the question, “Mary did you know?”  Do you suppose Mary understood or knew what was happening that first Christmas?  Did Joseph?  Do you fully get what the coming of the Savior really meant for the world and for you?

Getting a Clearer Image of “The Real God”

Chip Ingram’s Book The Real God challenges us to consider how we see God.  He says:

“What you think about God shapes your whole relationship with him and additionally what you believe God thinks about you determines how close you will grow toward him.

… your misconception about God have form a barrier that keeps you from experiencing him as he really is and as he wants to be seen…”

A.W. Tozer says, “What comes into our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us The way we think about God impacts all aspects of our life.”

Those are pretty power-packed statements!  In the next few weeks we plan to attempt to unpack those statements and consider how we just may improve how we think about our God.  Hope you’ll join us!

Coaching for Dark Times

Great Coaching for Dark Times

It sure seems like there is a lot of darkness in our world and in local communities.  When we view TV news or on the Internet, watch much of the entertainment from Hollywood, and even consider many of the stories that take place in our local communities, there seems to be a prevalence of darkness – of the deviant or perverted side of human beings.  Clearly there is a lot of good in our lives as well, it just seems like that is not what we see or hear a lot about.

The book of Colossians talks about this dark nature and gives us some direction on how to combat it in our own lives as well as in our community and in our world.

Consider joining us at Pleasant Chapel as we explore this for the next few weeks.
